At Nocterra we recognize that manufacturing on any scale represents an impact on the environment. We strive to reduce the impact of our daily operations & actively source products & processes to assist in that goal. Here are a few examples of sustainable solutions we’ve incorporated into our brewery & taproom.
At Nocterra we purchase RECs or Renewable Energy Credits to offset 100% of our monthly electric usage. RECs ensure that renewable energy like wind & solar are added to the electricity grid & offset our carbon usage compared to traditional fossil fuels. Most small businesses cannot afford the heavy capital investment & ongoing maintenance of on-sight, renewable energy generation. RECs allow us to effectively reduce our emissions, support our sustainability goals & further our mission of being good stewards of the environment.
We brew 5 days a week on average to keep our tanks full & the taps flowing. Each commercial scale batch of beer results in hundreds of pounds of spent grain as well as hop & yeast sediment. We make sure that none of the solid waste from our brewing process ends up in the landfill but is composted responsibly.
A simple but often overlooked sustainable upgrade is switching from traditional, incandescent lightbulbs to LED. On average, LED bulbs use 75% less energy than their incandescent predecessors. We run all areas of our brewery including our manufacturing spaces, taproom & beer garden on LED lights!
